Our Practice

'Depression is an epidemic problem, sweeping the developed world'   so says Oliver James, British Psychologist in "Affluenza" (2007).

James defines 'affluenza' as a contagious middle-class virus causing depression, anxiety, addiction and ennui (boredom).

This is the reality which we can help you manage.

We are a team of nurses and psychologists who use cognitive behaviour therapy in full-time private practice.

Collectively, we have over 30 years of experience working with clients from adolescence onward in individual one-on-one therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and small group therapy.

Also, we offer affordable stress management and problem-solving seminars for businesses and workplaces for groups of up to 20 people.

These workshops have a proven track record of success, and are a cost-effective way to support staff in these challenging times.

All our programs are based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which is short-term, structured, and goal-directed.

CBT has been shown by internationally acclaimed researchers to be more effective than drug therapy for depression and anxiety related disorders, and is acknowledged to have statistically better outcomes for clients who have previously been locked-in to drawn-out counselling/therapy programs where there is often little progress and high costs.

CBT is known to be effective with the following problems.... as well as the things you want to change, the things you dislike about yourself....

  • Depression.... see the article below***
  • Anxiety disorders - particularly panic attacks, and agoraphobia**.... see the comments on the 'Home' page
  • Procrastination- chronic and avoidance that inevitably creates more problems
  • Self-esteem and self-image problems
  • Family and relationship conflicts
  • Eating disorders
  • Everyday problem-solving: Ordinary situations that you run into over and over...and wish you could change
  • Working out what you really want to do, as oposed to what your parents / teachers / significant others want you to do

Our therapists have office hours everyday except Sundays.

Bookings must be accompanied by payment in full to secure places.

See the Events Schedule for up-coming events and costs

Please check with our billing department if you have questions about costs.

***DEPRESSION should not be confused with having the 'blues'.

Everybody gets worn down by life from time to time.

Especially when they are dealing with high-stress situations.

Real depression makes it tough to simply get through the day.

For my friend, depression often manifests itself through anger... usually at herself... but occasionally at cashiers, toasters and other appliances, and bad drivers.

Drugs can possibly take care of that... but at the cost of all her other passions.

She has since learned that she can control these feelings of anger by thinking positive thoughts and observing simple good manners.

What really scares her is waking up in the morning and suddenly not caring about anything any more...

'I don't want to work, I don't want to play... nothing interests me. And when its really bad I genuinely feel like I'd be happy to walk off a bridge' she told me.

These kinds of feelings are both disabling and dangerous. And drugs don't help them, only the milder bouts of anger.

But she has found natural ways to deal with the more upsetting feelings.

And you can too.

The one thing we want you to know is that there is hope.

You can get better if you find the right solution for you.

The Health Reserch Team at Natural Health Dossier have put together a very good report for dealing with depression.

Go to their site, and click on Archive, then click on 'Cognitive Health'

It looks at the symptoms and offers proactive solutions for defeating the lethargy and feelings of sadness. One of the best non-drug ways is to increase your intake of Omega-3, preferably from an organic, non-fish source.

Then come back to us, and register for a Project: Happiness workshop, or book some time with a Therapist.
